Giant Mountains: Sniezka
Below you will find several photos from my September walk from the Wang Church in Karpacz to Sniezka, the highest peak of the Giant Mountains and the Czech Republic. I waited three days for the right weather, because an exceptionally windy front was passing through Poland, and Sniezka is known for its record-breaking gusts of wind. So if in Poland it blows enough to issue meteorological warnings, you better not hike to Sniezka, where the record wind gust recorded was ... 288 km/h!
The characteristic building resembling a UFO is a meteorological observatory located on the top of a mountain. Its construction was completed in 1974. The lower floor of the building will be renovated in the coming years and a new restaurant will be opened to tourists. I am going to be there back then, may there be polish breaded pork chop served. Or pierogi. Or scrambled eggs and bacon!
The trail map is here. Total length is 19.1 km, total ascent is 1009 m.
